<Hutchison Whampoa and China Unicom?>

Hutchison is utilizing every technology but TDMA. With DoCoMo taking a 19% stake in Hutchison, perhaps W-CDMA will be the next tech they champion (in China?).

"...After being awarded a PCS licence in 1996, Hutchison Telecom was the first operator to run three digital mobile networks, GSM, CDMA and PCS, in Hong Kong. The company was also the first operator in the world to launch CDMA services on a commercial basis.

Hutchison Telecom subscribers enjoy international roaming service to over 90 Asian, European, African and North American countries. Also available are a large selection of value-added services such as the Mobile Phone Banking service which enables customers to do instant banking transactions via their mobile phones. The introduction of Mobile Friend service brings users a novel way to meet new friends through their handsets. Moreover, mobile phone users can receive Internet short messages and gain access to a wealth of real-time information with our innovative MobileNet service and Voice Info service respectively."

"...In December 1999, the Group announces that NTT DoCoMo, one of the world's largest and most advanced mobile phone companies, has agreed to acquire a 19% strategic equity interest in Hutchison Telephone Company Limited, the Group's Hong Kong mobile operator. With NTT DoCoMo's experience and expertise, Hutchison Telephone intends to expand its value-added services as well as to pursue a migration path towards third-generation mobile communication systems and services."
