DAK, By insured, I mean SIPC. And you have to remember, those shares you hold and I hold are legally registered as the property of the broker. People accept them for sale when a broker brings them in with no questions asked.

It may not happen that way this time. In 1929, even the President of The New York Stock Exchange sold clients' stocks to meet his own margin calls. All these folks with a gambler's mentality do not really believe that they are doing anything wrong because they plan to put it back as soon as this little emergency passes. And sometimes they get away with it.
