Um, er, aah, ahem, this some how rings a little warning bell. You might want to delete this before the train wreck makes the papers.

I'd bet that just having a train pass over puts some bend in the spikes. Lots of weight and has to be some torque. The rails don't stay rigid, they flex and bend.
