That's what Croc said! Are they so thick? I have never seen this. I figured an engraving plate to be a flat or cylindrical sheet. And much thinner. Of course, I've never seen one.

I could barely make out some of the names.
But it looks like they were repeated,
written over each other, etc.
I will check them again, maybe with a lens.

Could a person have scratched in their name, I mean hand-lettered it, and then they would pick the best one? (Is this a "duh!"?)

This is cool.

It is far too heavy to be architectural.
And it DOES remind me greatly of those hemicylindrical linotype castings used to print newspapers. Maybe the linotype plates get mounted on this thing as a backer?
