Portfolio Mgr Magee Predicts Volatile Summer Markets
Dow Jones Newswires

NEW YORK -- In the last 15 or 20 years, large-cap stocks have morphed from lumbering behemoths to agents of change, portfolio manager David Magee said.

"Large cap has become a very dynamic area of the stock market," Magee, of Duncan-Hurst Capital Management, said in a CNBC interview Thursday.

He contrasted International Business Machines Corp.'s (IBM) resistance to change in the mid-1980s with Cisco Systems Inc.'s (CSCO) flexibility and dynamism.

Half of Magee's portfolio is invested in technology. He especially likes Veritas Software Corp. (VRTS) and Texas Instruments Inc. (TXN). The data management space that Veritas occupies is becoming increasingly important as more and more companies go on the Web, Magee said.

He predicts volatile summer markets as signs of slight inflation may prompt fears of further interest rate hikes.

However, he added, "the inflation causing this volatility is temporary."
