That is interesting, and you may be right. Of course, I expect that most of the members will vote for Bush regardless.........

I think this was the most interesting part of the article:

While Gore said he supports a national collective bargaining bill to expand officers' rights, Bush said such issues should best be left to state and local authorities.
One union source said that in his in-person interview with union leaders, the governor appeared "ill-prepared" to discuss the critical issue. And he came across as somewhat flippant when asked what he had done to help state troopers in Texas get more bargaining rights.
"He said, 'Well, we make sure they have a heck of a Christmas party.' That went over pretty poorly," the source said.

Look how a little joke gets blown all out of proportion!

Bush = "Mr. Accessibility": Gore = "Mr. Stick to the script"

Bush savors cable TV with its 'hardball' hosts

By Bill Sammon
THE WASHINGTON TIMES

George W. Bush has begun granting long interviews on cable news shows that Vice President Al Gore has avoided, facing tough questions in a media arena that is becoming increasingly important in national politics.

The Texas governor fielded questions for an hour Wednesday from Chris Matthews on "Hardball" on MSNBC. Earlier this spring, he subjected himself to an extended grilling by Bill O'Reilly of "The O'Reilly Factor" on Fox News Channel.

By mixing it up with such rough-and-tumble interviewers, Mr. Bush is solidifying his claim to the "Mr. Accessibility" title vacated by Sen. John McCain, Arizona Republican. While the Texas governor gives press conferences several times each week, Mr. Gore has given only one in the last 103 days.
