I bet not so much as concrete ties but rails buried in concrete.

The Peabody Coal train comes through here. Hits Chicago and 8 cars at a time the wheels are locked onto the rails and she's all tipped over. Dumps that coal in a heart beat. My dad used to get $5 a day for scooping out a car full of coal in 24 hours. Real good pay then.

I need to look at the concrete ties after we're done studying this.

You shoulda mentioned this last night. I was looking at the website of a European firm that lays track with concrete sleepers, and they had pictures. The cement ties had metal pins protruding from the ties where spikes would normally be.
