jh: How do you suggest we stop the people from cutting down the rainforests?
ted: Shoot them.

We should at least have them re-plant the forest before we do it. <g>

Joe,

Actually I should not have been so flip. As one example, Costa Rico has turned their rainforests into a very successful tourist attraction. In addition, recently the country has become a favored location for hi-tech plants and it trades $ to use in rain forest preservation for permitting more favorable zoning for these new plants.

Another example is people in developed nations are raising money to give to rain forest countries with the promise of not damaging the forests.
