The Hong Kong model is probably not suitable for Taiwan as far as reunification is concerned. If Taiwan is good, they will probably get the Scotland model (grab that deal), if bad, then the Inner Mongolia model (to be avoided as it is not appetizing).

On the corruption scale amongst the Asian countries I have done work in (from worst to best):

Vietnam
Indonesia
Mexico
Philippines
Thailand
Malaysia
Taiwan
China
Japan
Korea
Hong Kong
USA
Singapore

and on that scale, I place US between Hong Kong and Singapore, for reference. Mexico is placed behind Philippines and Thailand, as the Filipinos say please, and the Thais say thank you.

China is placed ahead of Thailand and such as if you do not like the deal, you have a good chance of getting even. Same in relationship to Taiwan.

Singapore is ahead of the US as it is antiseptically and boringly devoid of any imagination for graft and corruption.
