Hmmmmm. I think the monster wheels were that size because of speed consideration ~ those were the driving wheels. Most likely the difference in contact area was practically negligible.

The tracks behind where I work(when I work, LOL) are 3 inches across at the top. I'd bet your estimate was about double reality. But that's close enuf for what we're doin'.

The weight will decrease, ie NASCAR, but on a rail the wave effect will multiply.
