depends wot u mean by less demand for a full blown PC. If u mean as a proportion of total sales of tech devices then right but not if u mean less PC's. PC growth and upgrade cycles will continue. Prices may drop but volumes will increase as more people get on the net and some of them will go the PC route.

Profit margins will dwindle as PC's compete with appliances on the client side, and server margins will dwindle as all the server vendors compete. The development of the net is a great leveller in that way and makes it difficult for hardware manufacturers to develop and maintain a selling point.

U want a web server, u can choose from a number of competing technologies that are all stable and scalable. Same for databases, streaming media, WAP, DNS and mail servers. It all comes down to price in the end.
