SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The Semiconductor Industry Association said world-wide chip sales reached a record high of $15.2 billion in April, up 36% from $11.2 billion during the same month last year.
The trade group said that sales of personal computers, together with "an explosion" in demand for mobile phones and wireless communication infrastructure, are driving demand.
The association said PC unit and consumer electronics sales remained strong in the first four months of 2000, with flash-memory sales nearly tripling in the period.
The industry group said semiconductor sales in the Asian-Pacific region grew 46% in April to $3.89 billion from $2.66 billion. April sales in Japan rose 41% to $3.43 billion from $2.43 billion.
In Europe, chip sales rose 34% in April, to $3.32 billion from $2.48 billion, while chip sales in the Americas rose 26% to $4.57 billion from $3.64 billion.

The house is rockin'. Nice pop today!

EETimes had a series of articles on 'Outlooks' for various sectors of the electronics industry. Here are some snipets.
Under 'DSP Markets Head for Record'
