There are two options:

1) Windows cannot handle web-requests the way Hotmail works.
2) Microsoft does not think it's worth the money to run Windows on Hotmail.

I can't see any other option. Since I believe that Windows should be able to handle a system like Hotmail, although it might require a lot of good programmers, I think number 2) is the one that makes Hotmail run on FreeBSD.

But I agree, that MSFT has a credibility problem, when all their benchmarks use 2Gigabyte or 4Gigabyte RAM PCs. But that's another story.
