I don't think there is any special identification with the NRA, although I imagine he supports it. The problem is that Buchanan is a "right wing populist", not a conservative, the American version of Le Pen in France. He is not so divisive (after all, this is America), but he is careless in his rhetoric;might reasonably be charged with (mild) anti- semitism and racism; is pro- Confederacy (not, be it noted, pro- slavery); is anti- immigrant (not unreasonable if it were not for the intemperate language); is protectionist and holds other anti- capitalist positions; and recently came out with a book blaming the French and British for World War Two, because they honored their commitment to Poland, and basically taking an America First position about how we were dragged into the war; and so on.........He has defended Holocaust revisionists, tried to make out that Hitler, though bad, was not as bad as people think, and been uncharacteristically "soft on crime" when it comes to those accused of war crimes, like Demjanjuk......
