You dont think ATHM has been establishing a base in the high teens/low twenties?

I don't know. That can't be assessed yet. There are times when you have to let the market tell you what to do. A basing stock is a good example. A base takes many months to form.

I do.

No, you're just guessing. It might be true, but most of the time, it isn't.

I am buying this stock for the longer term and I have conviction about it.

This is rationalization. The horses already escaped from the cowshed.

I am satisfied that we have seen the worst levels, and I am happy to buy at any price in this neighborhood.

You can guess all you want. It may work, but it isn't sound investing. It's speculating. Why not speculate something that is well known and screaming, and then come back later with bigger dough when this dog decides to come out of a base we all are hoping is forming?

When ATHM finally does come back into favor it could very well move sharply, as we saw a few weeks ago.

It won't move so fast that you can't get aboard unless it gets bought. That's further lottery rationalization.

So I have been making the decision to buy at these levels even if it isnt launch time.

That is perfectly justified, but it is also inconsistent with your previous post.

Despite this it is always frustrating to watch the stock languish in the face of a super strong market. But I guess I am willing to suffer. I may even have a perverse enjoyment in the suffering. Not sure.

Well, there you have it. You aren't trying to maximize money. Your intent is a valid investment approach too. Many people invest for other reasons than the mad money chase. You invest because in this lifetime you need to suffer with this particular flagellation, but you shouldn't carp about a failure of your choices to perform. You have to learn to accept what comes to you by itself without reaction. This is karma yoga.

Is all this ok with you?

Of course it is. You will make more progress to the goal by doing this than by madly chasing money. When you try to maximize money you only maximize grief, but if you practice this yoga with diligence, you will get the four fruits, kama, artha, dharma. and eventually, moksha.
