don't know svnx, it seems small for us, but we were all sitting around noodling about wireless yesterday.

broadly it's a struggle, comverse is comfortable for us because we don't see it as vulnerable to end user commodity price erosion. (we love stuff that drives more revenue and product offerings to captive customers in desperate competitive environments)

fundamentally we've avoided telcom services of all types (wireless or wireline transport) (And next week ma bell will PAY YOU $0.10 per minute to use its network!) and especially end user equipment providers.

i'm not averse to value added content providers that OWN the content or special capability, but that leads to a very narrow range of companies. infospace is conceptually cool, but valuation is way out of reach for us.

(caveat, i am speaking with a generalist portfolio manager's knowledge here, i only know this stuff casually, this is NOT the way we attack a segment, so any wireless discussion you hear from me will be embarassingly lacking in sophistication.)

the question i have for you is what part of the cloud should we be looking in?

we like huge barriers to competitive entry and potential sector dominance.

but you are on to a worthwhile topic.

so before we get to wireless names, how about discussing the sector? i'm a neophyte here, it feels like the sector gets much more interesting when there's finally an infrastructure that can support multimegabit speeds. it seems like the hodge podge mediocrity of US networks puts us 5 years away from a widespread g3 capability.
