Hungarian... hmmm never would have imagined it.

Have you ever had Chicken Paprikash...? (One of my favorite dishes).

When I lived in San Diego, there was this fantastic Hungarian restaurant, very small, in Del Mar (north of La Jolla). I forget the name of the owner... I think it was Miklosh (or something like that). He and his wife were the cooks and waiters, all home made food, one of the best!

There was a gigantic "sampler dish" in which they had a piece of everything under Hungarian cuisine...

There was, the Chicken Paprikash, pork chops with purple cabagge, stuffed cabagge (HMMMM another delicious one!!!), very thin sliced breaded veal, sauerkraut with Hungarian sausage... all that in a single dish. Oh it was great! Every time I went, I would stuff myself, after such "stuffing" then I would go for a walk on the beach in Del Mar. (I wonder why I left San Diego... Ah yes, it became super crowded).

The wines were not as good, the whites were on the sweet side, except of course Bull's Blood (Egri Bikaver see pic. members.aol.com --a red wine for Vikings-- or in this case, for Hungarian conquerors. Then there was Tokai (Tokaji) which is a dessert wine in the lines of the late harvested German Auslesse's very sweet.

The owner was very successful for many years, then he decided to quit the restaurant business and went on to build high-end homes in San Diego... (By sheer accident I saw one of his homes... sorry to say, the craftsmanship in it was very poor, I hope he returned to the restaurant business. Never heard from the man again.

Anyway... What a surprise!
