Oh I absolutely agree. I merely used my example because there was a "right" answer but it didn't stop us from coming up with LOTS of other ideas anyway. And with things where you aren't even trying to find a "right" answer the possibilities are infinite- or very close to it.

The educated observer is in a position to know if the treatment of the subject is appropriate; if the style of composition is highly derivative, or fresh; what effect the artist may have attempted (it makes a difference if you realize he meant to be whimsical or satirical, rather than assuming he did a poor job of being serious); and to notice things that might easily escape the eye of a "newbie", like the fineness of the detail, or the modulation of colors.....
