Just another perspective for your consideration. --- My advice to you is to not mix peyote and investing. FWIW -JCJ

Mozek,

A great post. A very accurate description of the real Sun. Thanks for the contribution.

John

The folks coming to JavaOne seem to think there's something to Java beyond marketing fluff.

IMHO, one of McNealy's better traits is that he can recognize talent and a good idea. e.g Bill Joy and Java. He doesn't have to initiate every good idea himself in order to be effective, although I have no doubt he has initiated plenty. You seem to think he's dishonest; I disagree. Unless you care to describe the "experiences" on which you base your opinion, it's easy to discount that opinion as the unfounded jealousy of a losing competitor.

You seem to think the ability to be flexible and change with the times is a negative. I don't.

I'm not going to take the time to respond to all your inflammatory language (e.g. "exhorbitantly priced," "100% monopoly," etc.) because it's not worth my time, but don't take that failure to respond as agreement.

By definition, a non-compliant Java can't outperform a compliant one. They're not comparable because they don't do the same thing.

Sun has every right and reason to exert enough control over Java to keep Microsoft from subverting and destroying (otherwise known as "embracing and extending") it.

I'm neither impressed nor convinced by your "perspective."

JMHO, as always.
