While AlGore the Junior lives in a mansion at taxpayer expense, he is a "hometown" slumlord:

Gore Accused Of Being a Slumlord

What would you call a landlord who let his property get run-down, who refused to make repairs, who evicts a tenant who complains? A Carthage woman calls that landlord Mr. Vice President.

Tracy Mayberry, who lives in property owned by Vice President Al Gore, has a problem with her plumbing and her toilets regularly overflow.

"It smells just like open sewer right there," Mayberry said Friday.

She said Gore refuses to make any repairs to the property.

"I consider him no better than some of the other landlords--the slumlords I call them."

Every month Mayberry sends Al Gore $400 for rent.

She said she's complained repeatedly about the plumbing. She's also complained about how the sinks won't drain and smell like rotten eggs.

"Just the odors alone is enough to make you sick," she said about the smell.

A plumber told her it would cost $300 to repair--money she says she doesn't have. She asked Gore to pay for the repairs.

"I cannot get Al Gore to do nothing," she said.

After she complained, she received a letter from Gore's property manager telling her she had until the end of the month to get vacate the premises.

"I don't think it's fair," she said.

The letter said once the Mayberrys leave, the septic system would be fixed.

The property manager told Mayberry the secret service would move in after she left the home.

The property manager, Audry Elrod, would not comment on the plumbing in the home.

Piker! Small potatoes, ah chocolate. Here's real Govmt wastage: $40,000,000 to sell dollars to Americans!!

Just last night, you saw that nifty ad on TV for the new golden dollar coin, the spot with George Washington at a disco and in scuba gear. (That's the voice of Michael Keaton as GW, by the way. Keaton doesn't come cheap.)

Savor that ad. Tape it. Cherish it. It's $40 million of your money, vanishing into the ether.

(The Mint came up with "golden dollar" only after early press reports dubbed the coin "Sacky" and "Squawbuck.")
