I included UCSD-P because it was the first system to incorporate the idea of bytecodes and a virtual machine, not because I felt it full of life and competitive to today's systems, Java included. The other systems mentioned are considered by many to be competitive and superior in some respects. Personally, I believe Java is more complete and obviously has much more behind it than the others, but it is not a major technological leap forward nor a panacea for everything Sun would have you believe.
