I'm briefly back on regular 44kbps internet service and find it most curious that my ADSL service @ 1500-1800 kpbs was only marginally faster for most functions. Sure, for software/MP3 downloads, ADSL is a lot faster. But for most internet functions, the difference in speed is negligible.

I guess the rate limiting step is the website servers I'm accesssing which work at the same speed despite whatever last mile access I have. We need more Akamai and Inktomi caches to boost those speeds.

But BellSouth seems to have perfected their ADSL service in New Orleans.
