Schwab to Offer Wireless Stock Trading
By Jack Reerink

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Charles Schwab Corp. (NYSE:SCH - news), the No. 1 U.S. discount and Internet brokerage, on Monday said it would start offering customers share trading over hand-held computers and wireless phones -- a sign that wireless trading is gaining momentum.

Schwab's 7.1 million customers soon will be able to check real-time stock market quotes, read news and make trades anywhere they like -- in the car, on the beach or in a restaurant. The San Francisco-based brokerage will first offer the service through hand-held digital organizers made by Palm Inc. (NasdaqNM:PALM - news), and plans to make it available through a range of cell phones and two-way pagers before the end of September.

``This is going to be the year that we'll see whether customers are going to adopt (wireless trading),'' said Nasos Topakas, vice president of Schwab's wireless group, in an interview.
