TITLE : DDI, IDO to Use 1X, HDR Technologies for IMT-2000 Services

May 23, 2000 (TOKYO) -- DDI Group companies and IDO Corp. said they plan to adopt high data rate (HDR) for their
next-generation IMT-2000 mobile communication services.

The technology of "HDR," a system for data communications, will be used in combination with 1X (MC-CDMA)
technology developed by Qualcomm Inc.

The companies originally filed an application to set up IMT-2000 services with the Ministry of Posts and
Telecommunications on May 12. They said they had decided to use 1X system (MC-CDMA), but they will also use the
HDR system for handling data communications traffic. The companies' IMT-2000 services are scheduled for launch in
2002.

Using 1X alone, the maximum speed for data communications would only be 153 kbps, which is far below the basic
standards required for IMT-2000 services -- 384kbps for mobile users and 2Mbps for users who are stationary or
walking. When they presented their application to the MPT, DDI and IDO said they would add a technology capable to fit
the IMT-2000 system requirements. The 3GPP2 group, an organization working to establish the official industry standard
specifications for IMT-2000, is expected to finish standardization of HDR by the end of 2000, which has a maximum data
transmission speed of 2.4Mbps.

The companies apparently sees no problem with the plans of using HDR with 1X, in which the MPT approves HDR for
use in domestic services as soon as the technology is standardized.

Ibexx: I moved a lot of RMBS money at that time into QCOM & JDSU which turned out to be the right thing to do as QCOM & JDSU had the better of it in 1999 - don't you think. You're correct - I didn't reap the benefits of RMBS. So what. You can't have very winner. You only need a few. When I need something to learn from you, I'll quit investing in the markets. Have a nice life.
