I have also had some experience with Medicare, and it is scandalous what some billers get away with. A common practice is called "upcoding", a process by which treatments and services are exaggerated.

I don't know all the details of your mother's situation, but some unscrupulous ambulette companies never merely transport a patient, they always also (allegedly) "administer oxygen, stabilize pulse and blood pressure, administer IV fluids", etc.--you get the picture; a simple ride gets portrayed as a major medical procedure.

So, yes, the next administration should take a serious look at Medicare overbilling,. as well as continuing overbilling in the areas of government works and military procurement.
