Where is the extortion here?

Please, Steve. We're talking about implementations and code being open. We're talking about multiple implementations of a platform. We're talking about consumers benefitting from multiple compatible implementations, a lesson Sun has learned about from the mistakes of Unix. We're talking about creating a volume base for a platform by keeping the interfaces visible, coherent and cooperative, not by keeping EVERYTHING secret and threatening. Have I said it enough times?

If you ever got a look at M$ implementation and or code, you had to sign 1000 pages of legalistic thuggery saying you would never say anything to anybody about anything, and you probably had to pay M$ a royalty for waking up in the morning, let along shipping product.
Not to mention the new ground they broke in bullsh*t shrink-wrap and click-licensing.

You might look in a consent decree or a finding of law.
