Carl,

Ratio of RDRAM to DDR system designs drops from
14.25 to 7.00

It looks like this is referring to designs in production, rather than designs in progress. Is that correct?

Hi all; Ratio of RDRAM to DDR system designs at Dramreview drops another notch to 72/11 = 6.54, down from 14.25 in only two months. Ouch!

Hi all; Ratio of RDRAM to DDR system designs drops another notch. Above 14 just a few weeks ago, it is now down to 6, as new DDR systems continue to hit the marketplace.

Dramreview keeps tally here:
dramreview.com

On their DDR list, they are missing the new VisionTek board. It is in stock and available at multiple retailers:
ibuyer.net

This brings the total number of small systems to 12, and the ratio of RDRAM to DDR systems now drops to 72/12 = 6.

Soon the ASUS V7700/Deluxe will be in stock, but not yet.

Hi all; Re DramReview's system design ratio...

Finally, I find the data from the previous three updates by Dramreview:

Date RDRAM DDR
------------- ----- ---
Apr 12, 2000: 58 4
May 22, 2000: 70 10
Jun 7, 2000: 72 11
Jun 14, 2000: 72 11 (should be 12)
Jul 17, 2000: 79 12 (should be 14)
Sep 25, 2000: 85 12 (should be about 27)

So here are the statistics...

Apr 12 to May 22 40 days 22 new RDRAM systems 6 new DDR systems
May 22 to Jul 17 56 days 9 new RDRAM systems 4 new DDR systems
Jul 17 to Sep 25 70 days 6 new RDRAM systems ~13 new DDR systems

Anybody notice a pattern here? Go ahead and stick your head where you like. [edit: implication is "in the sand"] The fact is that RDRAM system additions are dropping off, while DDR system designs are accelerating. When a couple dozen motherboard makers start making 2 or 3 varieties of DDR motherboards each, the DDR numbers are going to explode.

P.S. Links to data for above table (since DramReview doesn't keep records of their past totals, but I did, and publicly, on this thread, we can watch the history of RDRAM's slowing down: #reply-13824996 #reply-13840659 #reply-13880083
