RE: Scales...

I locked myself in a room for 6 years and did nothing but scales. I don't think I've sung one since. Once you learn, you learn.

You find too many numbers boring. It really doesn't involve that many numbers. A little adding, a little subtracting and a little division of numbers the company provides you in their reports.

Do you balance your check book?

tekboy: Musicians are mathematicians with talent.

Bruce is a clear case in singing opera.

Mike is a musician also as you yourself well know.

Therefore manipulating numbers is duck soup for them.

Remember how the great composers wrote masterpieces even after they lost their hearing. The numbers clicked in their heads and great music was the result.

While Mike calls himself an ex carpetologist, I think of him and the root of his genius for analysis as an ex musician.

Again, just some stray thoughts for the weekend.

And hey, all is not lost if you can sit through Wagner. The Rings are intricate and complex, no? Too much so for me, I prefer music which reflects beautiful painting, which reflects nature, which reflects ....life.

Best as always.

PS Curious if anyone here agrees with George Gilder's point that the real contraints are time and life span. And the correlary that approaches to saving same are keys to investment.

PPS Am I the only one here who has read T S Eliot's Burnt Norton? Surely you or your wife have, tekboy - or will?
