In the next sixty days the interactive television wars will finally begin to tornado. AOL Tv is scheduled to launch on June 19,(I think). AOL will throw a multi-million dollar ad campaign and huge incentives at its existing customer base. If only ten percent try it out, 2 million new Gemstar customers are created!

Microsoft, not to go softly into the night, is trying to outdo AOL by offering huge discounts on WEBTV +. You have to sign up for three years....but if you do you get the hardware free and some programming discounts. I don't know how many new folks will buy into this Echostar/MSFT package, but they all become Gemstar customers.

If the hype and early adaptor interest begins to pump sales up, look for more discounts and incentives by both players. Gemstar could easily have five million new people using its Guides within a few months time.
