QUALCOMM Enters into CDMA Subscriber License Agreement with GARMIN
CDMA will Enable GARMIN to Expand its Product Offering
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 5, 2000--QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM - news), pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, and GARMIN Corporation, an international developer and manufacturer of Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment, today announced that they have entered into a worldwide CDMA subscriber unit license agreement. Under the terms of the agreement, GARMIN was granted a royalty-bearing license under QUALCOMM's CDMA technology and patents, and position location patents belonging to SnapTrack, a wholly owned subsidiary of QUALCOMM, to develop, manufacture and sell subscriber products for CDMA and High Data Rate (HDR) wireless applications.

``The rapid advance of technology is spurring increased consumer demand for new position location services in wireless networks,'' said Steve Altman, president of QUALCOMM Technology Alliances. ``The agreement with GARMIN illustrates the value of QUALCOMM's and SnapTrack's patents and technology in supporting the emergence of a broad spectrum of new CDMA appliances with position location capabilities.''
