Mike that is exactly what I have been saying.You have taken out 8 years living expenses with a plan to take out more when stocks reach extreme highs.I said the same thing but instead put it in a CD so you can earn some interest on the principal.Having 8 years on the sidelines definitely helps riding out the bumps.the side line cash also gives you the opportunity to buy when stocks take a Major dip.

I never advocated selling at lows because that is the worst thing one can do.I still have not sold anything and hold no cash at the moment.

I have been struggling with the urge to sell some portion of the stocks that have recovered recently to buy some qcom.The only problem is that it is already by far the largest holding in my portfolio.
