There are a couple of examples of Greek sculpture that I can think of from around 450 BC, but I don't think they actually come close to this... There's something "else" about this... perhaps it's the dark stone... I'm still not sure... The other thing that knocks me out about this sculpture is that the stance is so typically Egyptian (granting that many early Greek kouros figures have a similar pose), but that the anatomy and the drapery is so Greek... very unusual...but incredibly beautiful... Whatever, I was totally knocked out by it when I saw it come up on my screen this morning and I'm still thinking about it tonight... Can't wait to hear more about it...
