They have already proven that you can make a Warp drive but it would take up all the energy in the world to run it. <g>

For Warp drive to work you would have to know the presence of any obstacles in your trajectory before you get there. Therefore, this technology, just like in Star Trek, would allow you to adjust your course at Warp speed accordingly.
