Mani - RE: "And as I have mentioned before, how is AMD going to support 15 speed grades of the Athlon in addition to 3 Durans? Also there is no need to release anything higher than 1.0 GHz. I am not saying that AMD can if it wanted to, just saying it shouldn't even if it can."

AMD has pumped out the MHz at a very fast rate since the Athlon came out. Why are they slowing down now? It has been three months since the last speed grade came out. That is an eternity if you compare it to what happened from August - March.

AMD needs to push out 1.1GHz ASAP. AMD has a few month lead over Intel in GHz processors. They need to take advantage of this as much as possible. Cumine probably craps out at 1.2GHz in .18, and there is a strong chance Willy won't be available in significant quantities (meaning in the millions) this year. AMD NEEDS to take advantage by supplying solid GHz processors in quantity ASAP to gain further on Intel. Once AMD gets business skus they will gain momentum. They need to build on as much momentum as they can to capitilize on their current advantage. Also, Intel supply should get better as the year goes on. Intel may be more agressive on price as a result. But if AMD is selling 1.2Ghz processors at the time Intel's 1Ghz processor finally makes it to the market in meaningful quantity, AMD is safe from a price war because they offer more.
