I have not seen any statements from K-Mart that they are not manufacturing or shipping parts faster than 1GHz. Should I place the same confidence in them?

Excellent point.

Just because AMD did not announce a 5 GHz ThumperTurd does not mean that they they aren't shipping them.

In fact, AMD's refusal to announce the 5 GHz ThumperTurd today is probably proof positive that they indeed ARE shipping the 5 GHz devices - IN PRODUCTION !
