Hyundai Electronics Aims to be One of World's Top-Three Foundries June 5, 2000 (SEOUL) -- Hyundai Electronics Industries Co., Ltd. said it aims to become one of the world's top three foundry businesses by expanding its supply capability to 1.7 million 8-inch wafers per year by the end of 2001. The plan comes after the memory chip maker said it already secured major companies such as Toshiba Corp., ST Microelectronics and Conexant Systems Inc. as major customers. "We are going to modify two 8-inch memory lines to fit foundry purposes, and produce 50,000 wafers a month with circuit widths of 0.35 micron meters and 0.25 micron meters by the end of this year," said Huh Yum, director at the company's System IC Strategic Business Unit. nikkeibp.asiabiztech.com
