Addendum: "Are you trying to tell me that Qualcomm is going to allow its technology in the same handset as Nokia? How about Ericsson? How will they make money? And Motorola?"

They'll figure it out. Probably, there will be two types of handsets initially: roaming and local. Local could be CDMA or GSM, whatever works, with the usual revenue streams.

In roaming handsets, the drive would be to get your software into the handset. Getting to a standard would probably be a bloodbath; there would be winners, and losers.

Zzz...

Hi Jim,

Do you happen to have the URL for the slideware sendup I did? I may have to contact the SI staff to see if my 15 minute edit time is still running.... <vbg>

Thanks for the excellent lead in the discussion of wireless protocols. It's really helping to clear up some issues here as well.

Of course, as soon as we learn a new protocol it is immediately obsoleted. What joy. Always something new to learn. :~), I think...

Which reminds me of the fellow who advised that in finance and investing, ignorance is only briefly bliss......

Best, Ray
