That Compaq announcement is actually a bigger loss for Alcatel than Lucent. Compaq was shipping the WildWire but I believe they quit doing so at the end of '99. At one time they were shipping Alcatel modems and Lucent modems but the past six months or so they have only been shipping the Alcatel one.

Perry, I think there is more to that than what you're thinking. First of all we should look at the source for that write-up, it's TI & CPQ. Then we should look at what they say....

``TI's splitterless full-rate ADSL technology is a powerful product that can bring reliable, high-speed Internet access to millions of households, and will help Compaq bring cost-effective broadband solutions to our consumers,'' said Sean Burke, vice president of the Consumer Products Division, Compaq Computer Corporation. ``

Splitterless full rate is good, however, now we should ask if those are multi-mode chipsets, because, not everyone can get full rate.
