Mucho. 1X MC is an IMT 2000 technology and delivers data at up to 144Kbps. Adding HDR to this will inctrase data rates to 2Mbps. This is the same data rate as the proposed IMT 2000 3X MC technology. This is the point of this whole debate. We see DDI (JApan) and the Koreans goung to 1X MC right now and to 1X MC w/ HDR this fall. Then China will build 1XMC w/ HDR starting in 2001. Thus, by late 2001 the major asial countries will all be running on the same technolohy and, presumably willl have roqming with one phone.

NOw we see DoCoMo commissioning Mitsubishi to build their bastard 2 ASIC, 2 number phone so they can also say they have single phone roaming between Japan and Korea.

Ain't it fun!!!

Korea will never migrate to any other standard other than QCOM's. Why? Because Koraen companies are the world leaders in CDMAone exports. If they move to another standard they will lose that edge. QCOM's CDMA has very much become a Korean technology.
