I don't understand why this is a news item. It shouldn't be. Public company gives equity to charitable org. Charitable org turns it into cash. Company gets to write off the entire value to the charity while writing down a much smaller number on the expense line. This is a *good* thing. If wealth is going to be redistributed, this is an excellent way to do it. You and I should probably do it more often. -JCJ
