No, I've always owned the large Scotch Collies... sables and also tri-colours... and always rough coats. The 2 that I have right now are tri-colours roughs. I did own a Border Collie for a number of years and have quite a few friends who own them, but they really are "energetic" dogs and I think they aren't suited for city living unless you're into jogging or playing frisbee with them in a park somewhere.

The Border Collie that I owned was purchased from someone who had a postage-stamp backyard and soon realized that the dog didn't suit the location. When I went to see the dog, he was in the yard. It was pretty bizarre... as he had worn a circular "trench" into the ground from running around in the yard for hours each day. He was a good dog, but he was really too active for working around goats. He wanted to herd them even when they were where they were supposed to be. He would also rush up behind the milkers when they were on the way to the milking parlour... They knew the way and didn't need to be herded, so it really annoyed them. Not finding enough to herd at our house, he started going next door and trying to herd my neighbours kids when they were riding their tricycles around on the lawn... Basically, he turned out to be a bit of a pain in the butt, but we kept him until he died about 10 years ago.

As for the big Scotch Collies... I think they're amazing... Super easy to train and very devoted... but they DO love any excuse to bark... happens that my older collie thinks that she owns the highway in front of the farm and enjoys barking at all of the bike club cyclists that pass by on weekends... (-:

that I am way too sedentary to keep up with one, especially a young one.

Maybe a nice stuffed dog? You can carry it from room to room. It will look nice and has the benefit of no vet or food bills.

I sometimes feel that way about my husband-- maybe I should have him stuffed.
