Monday June 5, 11:19 am Eastern Time Company Press Release Intel Corporation Technical BulletinINTEL UNVEILS A NEW FAMILY OF FLEXIBLE, COST-EFFECTIVE NETWORK CONNECTIONS TAIPEI, Taiwan--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 5, 2000-- Integrates Network Controller into New PC Chipsets Today at Computex 2000, Intel Corporation (Nasdaq:INTC - news) announced that it has integrated the Intel© PRO/100 Fast Ethernet controller directly into Intel's next generation PC chipsets. This integration makes it easier for PC manufacturers and system integrators to implement cost-effective 10/100 Mbps Ethernet and 1 Mbps home network connections in a range of desktop systems. The controller is a key part of a complete network connectivity solution, which transfers data over computer networks. The integrated LAN controller resides within the new I/O Controller Hub (ICH2), which is the part of the PC chipset that handles interaction with external devices and communications. The first PC chipset from Intel to use ICH2 is the Intel© 820E Chipset, which was also announced by Intel today. ``With the rapid growth of Internet and Intranet usage, networking has become an integral part of the PC platform,'' said Tim Dunn, general manager of Intel's LAN Access Division. ``By integrating our Intel© PRO/100 Fast Ethernet controller directly into the chipset, Intel is providing PC manufacturers with a reliable, cost-effective connectivity solution for their desktop systems.'' Integrated LAN Functionality: Reliable Performance at an Exceptional Value The integrated LAN controller works with one of three new physical layer components from Intel, which also include power management capabilities, and enable three distinct solutions for PC manufacturers. The solutions include: The Intel© 82562ET Platform LAN Connect enables a basic 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet network connection for value segment systems. The Intel© 82562EM Platform LAN Connect enables a managed, 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet connection with support for the Alert on LAN (NOTE B) specification for business environments. The Intel© 82562EH Platform LAN Connect is based on the Home Phone Networking Association (HomePNA) standard and provides a 1 Mbps network connection over existing home phone wires. The Intel 82562ET Platform LAN Connect and the Intel 82562EM Platform LAN Connect are part of the Intel© PRO/100 family of network connectivity solutions, which include mobile, desktop and server network adapter cards and LAN-on-motherboard products. All of Intel's PRO/100 Network Connections are based on a common architecture and take advantage of Intel© SingleDriver(TM) technology, allowing IT managers to use a single software driver for all their networked PCs and servers. New LAN Solutions Available as LOM or on a CNR Adapter Intel's new physical layer components can be placed directly on to the PC motherboard as a LAN-on-motherboard (LOM) solution or on to a new type of network adapter based on the open Communications and Networking Riser (CNR) specification. The LOM solution provides an integrated, cost-effective form of network connectivity. Leading motherboard and PC manufacturers, including Acer Incorporated (NOTE A), ASUSTek Computer Inc (NOTE A), Giga-byte Technology Co Ltd (NOTE A), IBM Corporation (NOTE A) and Micro-Star International (NOTE A), have chosen to implement the new network connectivity solution in this way. The CNR specification enables small form factor PC add-in cards designed to address a variety of PC communications such as 10/100 Ethernet, home networking, modem, and audio technologies in a cost-effective manner. This flexible solution allows PC manufacturers and system integrators to build configure-to-order systems with a single motherboard that will accommodate different connectivity options. Intel's first CNR card is called the Intel© PRO/100 VE Desktop Adapter. The new network adapter card expands Intel's comprehensive family of network adapter cards and provides a 10/100 Fast Ethernet connection based on the integrated CNR form factor. Pricing and Availability The integrated LAN controller is available today as part of the Intel© 820E Chipset. Also available today are the following: Suggested List Price -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Intel 82562ET Platform LAN Connect $8.95 (10,000 unit price) Intel 82562EM Platform LAN Connect $10.50 (10,000 unit price) Intel 82562EH Platform LAN Connect $4.28 (10,000 unit price) The Intel PRO/100 VE Desktop Adapter will be available in mid-July for a suggested list price of $39.00 each in quantities of five.
