Australia looks even cheaper. I do daily plots of the $A, $C, and the spread.
Back in 1996, $A was $US .80, $C was $US .73, a 7 cent premium.
Now, $A is $US .58, $C was $US .68, a 10 cent discount.

There is a very strong incentive for US-based mining companies to buy Australian miners, and a decent case can also be made for Canandian miners to buy Australian. Placer Dome and Homestake have a good track record in Australia and should be buying cheap Australian assets.
