Good point that the terms "heroic measures," "imminent death" and "artificial means" are ambiguous. I recently spent several hours with a woman discussing her ideas of what these terms meant to her - her aunt had recently died and the hospital withheld water, which caused, in her opinion, needless suffering. She wanted to make sure that she received enough water to be comfortable at the end.

My brother-in-law works in a hospice - that's the type of place to go if you possibly can. They aren't afraid to use drugs to ease the suffering of terminal patients. Most doctors are uncomfortable with dying patients, they can't really help them anymore, and they represent failure.
