D: Re: "But is it really only ONE data point on ONE day?" Yes, there has been much data posted here to suggest a moderation if not slowdown in the economy. This is one reason why I liked the Brinker trade. The market was bracing for the worst and we got Goldilocks again. The issue is whether the "slowdown" or "moderation" is enough to satisfy the Fed. Too early to tell. The other issue is where will inflation be once the economy slows. If the economy slows but we still have above target inflation, you could get stagflation as Brinker pointed out this past weekend.
