mike, agreed. the nba athlete has to be specialized. if you count a combination of size, speed, quickness, endurance, vision, hand / eye coordination, body control and jumping ability as "athletic" then i think they are some of the best athletes - w/o question.

if you define "athletic" as being skilled at multiple sports then they wouldn't.

don't forget the new york knicks' heisman trophy winner, though... charlie ward. i don't think they give those out with a pack of gum. ;-) but, alas, he is the exception that proves the rule.

as for barkley and shaq, they don't have time to practice fighting. if they did, they might be good at it. hey, shaq faired better than larry bird. charles got him in a sleeper hold after bird and dr j started boxing. you could barely see bird's toes wiggling ;-)

yeah, that "fight" was a bust, too ;-)
