I'm so glad you brought that up (and so nicely too). I wondered the same thing. If I want to hang a Degas print in my laundry room because I enjoy looking at it while I fold underwear, so what?

I know little about art. I would think, however, that appreciation of it is similar to music, and occurs on two levels: a technical one and an emotional one. You don't have to understand all the elements that go into Bach's style to find the Toccata and Fugue in D minor spine-tingling. ANd if you enjoy hearing it played on the accordion, who am I to judge your taste?
I think it says something not very nice about me if I am offended by those who don't know not to applaud between lieder in a set when I should just be thrilled that they can enjoy the experience at all.
