Alcatel Wins Two Wireless Contracts Worth $85 Million
(Update1)
By Daniel Tilles

Paris, June 5 (Bloomberg) -- Alcatel SA, Europe's second- biggest phone equipment maker, said it
won two mobile telephone contracts worth a total of $84.6 million.

One contract, worth $63 million, is to expand a global system for mobile communications, or GSM,
network in Cambodia. The second, awarded by Qatar Telecom Corp., will give users Internet access
from mobile phones using GPRS, or General Packet Radio Services, technology starting in the fourth
quarter.

After spending about $9 billion buying Internet networking products, Alcatel is under pressure to
strengthen its cellular operations as telephone companies start building new networks. Last month,
Alcatel and Japan's Fujitsu Ltd. said they're linking to develop equipment for wireless Internet
networks, intensifying competition with Ericsson AB, the world leader.

Shares in Alcatel closed down 0.1 euro, less than 1 percent, at 64.9 euros ($61.43) in Paris.
