Glenayre, ChangJiang Information Technology Agree to Develop Two-Way Messaging Applications for China
SINGAPORE, June 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Glenayre Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: GEMS - news) announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Glenayre Electronics (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and ChangJiang Information Technology Company, Ltd. (CJINFO) have signed a cooperative agreement to develop two-way messaging applications for the @ctiveLink module and other two-way devices for the China market. Through this agreement, Glenayre and CJINFO plan to develop Wireless Internet systems and applications that enable ``Information On Demand'' and two- way messaging services for interactive messaging devices used in that country.

``Glenayre is pleased to work with CJINFO to open up the Wireless Internet market in China and develop two-way messaging applications for the fast growing ReFLEX market in China,'' stated Mr. Chinnee M. Tong, vice president and general manager at Glenayre, China Operations. ``Glenayre is committed to open standards in the two-way market and believes that this agreement and others like it will allow Glenayre to grow our two-way business in this country as well as provide communication services to meet the demand of wireless operators and subscribers in China.''

``CJINFO has been quick to meet the demand of paging customers that want to receive news or other information through their one-way paging device. We believe that with the development of ReFLEX paging systems in China, consumer demand for the ability to access information from the Internet as well as sending and receiving messages through their wireless device will increase dramatically. With the agreement between Glenayre and CJINFO we can build the information platform and applications for different ReFLEX devices to meet this demand,'' said Mr. Zhang Ping, CEO and president of CJINFO.

CJINFO, headquartered in Beijing, currently provides a platform and services for paging and cellular messaging services and has developed call center and short message system products. The company has already developed relationships with news agencies, banks, stock exchanges as well as television and radio stations to provide formatted messages from these organizations to one-way paging subscribers in China.
