Re: "Anyone seen a GHz PIII at work yet? I haven't. Nor a GHz Athlon for that matter, but I suspect I will soon."

My previous employer has a Gateway 1 GHz Athlon for a new CAD station. They didn't even know they could purchase a 1 GHz PIII (I told them they could at least order one from Dell).

I inquired how this machine was doing, hoping for some positive feedback. They said they were having problems with Windows and drivers (they switched from Win98 to Win95 and all the details left me numb) but that it was basically working again. They are planning a shift to Win2K so hopefully they won't have to mess with software adjustments as much with future additions -- but may enjoy the cost of upgrading 20+ machines!

<<just tells you all GHz PIIIs go to business or direct sales>>

There must be a few other people reading this thread have experience of that business world, probably with higher performance processor demands than most business segments. Anyone seen a GHz PIII at work yet? I haven't.

Gopher,

Forget that....even if Elmer's statement is true...all PIII's when for business or direct sales....it reflects badly on Intel. PC demand is normal; yet Intel can't provides anymore enough chips to go around.

Talk about no corporate planning. I am still blown away that no one has been held accountable. Working at Intel must be like unemployment....you keep getting the check so long as you show up.
